Find a Doctor
Knee pain can be debilitating for those who suffer from it every day. It can start to limit your mobility and make spending time doing the things you love more challenging. If you are not currently finding relief in knee pain with your care plan, then you can rely on the services of a knee chiropractor.
What to Expect at First Visit
When you first are seen by a knee chiropractor, they may start off by asking about your current condition and medical history. By answering a series of questions, it can help us create a plan that is unique to your individual needs, as every patient we see if different. Your chiropractor may start off by performing an adjustment of your spine and then focus on the knee. This is because our spine is an important organ that can affect other body systems if it is not in proper working order.
Methods of Treatment
In addition to receiving regular adjustments of the spine and knee, a chiropractor may recommend also getting treatment through the various methods described below. A knee chiropractor can help you decide which is most appropriate for you, based on the condition of your knee.
- Electrotherapy – non-painful small doses of electric pulses can help treat soft tissues by stimulating muscles and nerves.
- Ultrasound – most often known as a type of imaging technology, soft tissues and joints can benefit from these sound waves as they produce a massaging effect to reduce swelling, decrease stiffness and pain.
- Infrared Sauna – heat controlled rooms may make your knees feel as though the tissues are warming from the inside out, helping relieve pain and increasing the level of circulation in your body.
- Low-Level Laser – also referred to as cold laser, this method utilizes a non-heat producing light or laser than can delve deep into your tissues, aiming to reduce inflammation.
Holistic & Alternative Approach
Many patients appeal greatly to the concept of a holistic, alternative and drug-free approach to care. It is not uncommon for us to hear from our patients that their regular doctor recommended surgery as the very last and only treatment option left in potentially treating their knee pain. However, this may not be the case. If you have not tried chiropractic care yet, it may prove to be exactly the alternative treatment that you needed.
Heavy doses of painkillers and muscle relaxants are commonly prescribed to those who have joint pain. This may be helpful in the short term, but over time may prove to be not a lasting treatment plan. It may be only putting a bandaid over the pain without treating the true source of the problem.
